Yellow Basmati Rice

(4 servings)

 

2 cups basmati rice

2 ¾ cups water

1 ¼ tsp sea salt

½ tsp ground turmeric

2 to 3 cloves

¼ cinnamon stick

2 bay leaves

2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)

 

Clean and wash the rice.  Place the rice in a bowl.  Cover with clean water and soak for 30 minutes.  Place the rice in a sieve and drain for 15 minutes. In a saucepan, place the rice, water, salt, turmeric, cloves, cinnamon and bay leaves, Stir.

 

Bring to a boil.  Cover and reduce the heat to low.  Cook for 15 minutes.  Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes.  Remove the lid.  With a fork, spread the butter over the rice.  Gently separate the grains of rice with the fork.

 

Remove the whole spices from the rice.  Serve
