Prawn Shells are usually eaten in this recipe but shells can be removed before adding prawns to marinade, if preferred.  This recipe is not suitable to freeze or microwave.

1 Kg uncooked king prawns

1 medium onion, chopped

½ cup plain yogurt

½ teaspoon ground turmeric

½ teaspoon chilli powder

1 tablespoon paprika

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Wash prawns, pat dry with absorbent paper.  Remove heads and legs, leaving tails and body shells intact.   Blend or process onion, yogurt, turmeric, chill powder, paprika, ginger, garlic and juice until smooth.

Combine yogurt mixture and prawns in large bowl, mix well, cover and refrigerate overnight.  Grill or barbecues prawns until tender, brushing occasionally with marinade during cooking.
