500g prawns (shell, de-vein and wash)

 

Pat dry then sprinkle over them ½ tsp of salt.  Braise in 1 tblsp of oil till they are flushed pink.

 

2 onions (grated)

1 tsp garlic

½ tsp salt

3 tblsp oil

1 ½ tsp red chillies (freshly pounded

½ tsp crushed jeera

¾ cup coconut cream (from ½ coconut)

2 tblsp yoghurt

 

POUND TOGETHER

 

1 small piece cinnamon

1 clove

3 elachi (cardamom)

1 tsp jeera

 

Roast the spices for pounding on a tava and then pound fine.  Mix together the grated onion, garlic, red chillies, jeera and salt.  Fry this onion paste in the oil and when onions are fried, add prawns and curds and simmer slowly for a few minutes..

 

Add coconut mill and pounded spices.  Allow to infuse just once, then lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes by which time the prawns will be done.

 

Serve hot with rotis or rice.
