Baking Powder Biscuits

  • 11/3 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons could butter, cut in pieces
  • ½ cup milk

Preheat the oven to 425 oF.  Grease a baking sheet.  Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a bowl.  Cut in the butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Pour in the milk and stir with a for to form a soft dough.

Roll out the dough about ¼ inch thick.  Stamp out circles with a 2 1/2-inch cookie cutter.  Place on the prepared sheet and bake until golden, about 12 minutes.  Serve hot or warm, with butter for meals; to accompany tea or coffee, sever with butter and jam.
