1 cup chana dal ,soak overnight

1/2 tsp turmeric

salt to taste

FOR THE MEAT

4 tbsp coconut oil

2 cup thinly sliced onions

4 whole cardamom  pods

3 inch cinnamon stick

2 whole cloves

3 tbsp minced garlic

3tbsp minced ginger

2tsp chopped green chili

2 tsp ground cumin

2Lb leg of lamb,cut into 2*2 Inch pieces

1/2 cup chopped tomatoes

1/4 cup water

3 tbsp chopped Cilantro

Method:

1. Bring dal and water to boil in a deep pot. Add turmeric,simmer,covered and cook about

1 hour.Add salt and keep in warm

 

2. Heat the 3tbsp  oil in a large deep pot over medium heat. Fry onion until brown and set aside

 

 

3. Add 1tbsp oil to the pot and heat over medium low heat. Fry cardamom ,cinnamon, and cloves

about 30 seconds. Add garlic,ginger,chili and fry until garlic and ginger are lightly browned about

2 minutes. Add cumin, lower heat and add lamb,tomatoes, and water. Lower heat slightly and

simmer,covered about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally .

 

 

4. Add the reserved dal to the meat and mix well. covered, until meat is tender, another 15- 20

minutes.

 

5. Remove from heat. Mix in the reserved onions. Garnish with cilantro and serve
