Chettinad Chicken Soup

1/4 Cup toor dal


1/2 Tsp turmeric powder


3 Cloves garlic


2 Tbsp corn oil


2 Bay leaf


2 Small cinnamon stick


5-6 Curry leaves


1/2 Tsp cumin seeds


1/4 Tsp fennel seeds


1/2 Cup onion, cut lengthwise


1/4 Chopped tomatoes


1 1/2 Tsp minced fresh ginger


1/2 Chopped green chilli pepper


3/4 Cup chopped skinless chicken


1 Tsp curry powder


1/4 Cup fresh coriander


1/2 Tsp black pepper and cumin powder


Salt to taste

1.   Boil 3 cups of water in a saucepan and


2.   Add toor dal and turmeric powder and cook for 30 minutes. until dal becomes creamy

and set a side


3.  In a deep saucepan heat corn oil over medium heat.when oil is hot,add bay leaf cinnamon

curry leaves,cumin and fennel.then add onions,garlic ,tomatoes ,ginger and green chilli and

fry for 5 minutes until onions are tender.


4.   Add chicken and stir- fry with onions over medium heat.add curry powder and stir well cook

and add salt


5.   Add toor dal mixture and 4 cups of warm water to chicken.


6.   Add coriander and allow the soup to come to a boil and add black pepper and cumin powder

and stir well

7.   After soup has come to a boil reduce heat and allow simmer until the chicken is tender.if soup is

thick add some hot water as you need.
