Chana Dal SoondalHow to Make Chana Dal Soondal

1/2 cup chana dal

1/4 tsp turmeric

1 tsp corn oil

6 curry leaves

2 whole dried red chili pepper

1 tsp mustard seeds

2 tsp urad dal

salt to taste

1/4 tsp asafoetida powder

1/2 tsp minced fresh ginger

1/2 cup freshly ground coconut  milk

 

Method:

 

1. Soak chana dal in 1 cup of water for 30 minutes. Drain water and set aside

 

2. Boil 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Add chana dal and turmeric powder.Cook dal,uncovered ,

until it becomes soft. Drain water and set aside

 

3. Place corn oil in a skillet and heat over medium heat. When oil is hot ,add curry leaves,red pepper,

mustard seeds and urad dal. wait until mustard seeds pop and urad dal turns golden.

 

4. Add chana dal and blend well with seasonings in the skillet over low heat.

 

5. Add salt, asafoetida powder,  and ginger. Mix well with chana dal.Add coconut and mix well
