Brown Rice

Brown Rice Recipe

Brown Rice2 tablespoons ghee

2 (1 inch/ 2 ½ cm) cinnamon sticks

2 star anise

6-8 whole cloves

2 large red onions, sliced

2 teaspoons sugar

1½ cups (300 grams) basmati rice, soaked

1 teaspoon table salt


Place a non-stick saucepan over medium heat and add the ghee.  When the ghee melts and small bubbles appear at the bottom of the pan,

Heat the ghee on a non-stick saucepan over medium heat.  Add the cinnamon, cloves, and star anise.  Sauté for 30 seconds.  Add onions and sauté for 7 to 8 more minutes or until it becomes brown. 

Add sugar and sauté until it dissolves and then add rice and stir.  Add 5 cups of water and the salt.  Bring it to a boil and lower the heat to a medium and cover and cook for anther 15 minutes.  Serve hot.
